2. I get to coach Lisa on a regular basis and she is so self-effacing, you'd never know she was such an amazing endurance athlete as these results of hers show her to be.

Congratulations, Lisa!

5. Great Job Lisa!!! I'm looking to do a few ultras before the years end. Was your training strictly CFE or did you train any long runs too?

6. Thank you all - I am SO thrilled to have finished that beautiful tough race. I only recently started CFE so long runs formed the basis of my training but I am learning to incorporate POSE running and the CFE system to improve my speed and endurance.

8. First of all, great job Lisa! I can't imagine.... That's not "just" 100 miles. It's 100 miles of hills, at high altitude. Big props to you! Second of all, OK, I'll bite... Laughing, why do you think paleo diet is [based on] pseudo science? Cheers!

9. Great work Lisa. You should be proud of yourself. I am anxious to get into Crossfit Endurance

10. Congrats to Lisa! 100 miles ain't no small feat.
On another note: Whats with the spammers lately? That joker yesterday who you know was waiting for a dnf result. I am willing to bet it is the same dude who calls himself 'laughing' above. I don't even know what his comment means. Eating real food is pseudo science? Sounds like a Conagra sales rep had a couple too many lite beers on his lunch today!

And Mike Kraft. Welcome.

11. Myles--I had the same question, but it may be that "Laughing" is really in the know about paleo diet. It has been said jokingly that paleo diet is based on pseudo science--for the past 50,000 years! He may be "laughing" at that same joke, and I just didn't catch on to it.

12. What is "pseudo science" exactly? Is it similar to the science behind the USDA food pyramid? The "science" behind traditional dieting in the U.S. is not curbing the 42% of men that are overweight and 48% of women that are overweight; those numbers don't take into account obesity or severe obesity either. If that's the case, then no thank you. If it's the empirical evidence that demonstrate a healthier more fit individual based on a variety of factors that have been demonstrated by CF, CFE, and other athletes then I'll take "pseudo science." It may be "pseudo" but according to this "pseudo" research, our Paleolithic ancestors didn't suffer from the same cardiovascular diseases we do; the introduction of grains and agriculture provided that. Sure, they had to deal with other illnesses (and the possibility of being eaten by big animals), but they were healthier, stronger, and more functional than we are.

13. Heavy Tosh was on the schedule today. Wore a 10# weight vest. Somewhere I had in my mind it was 4x thru, but luckily I stopped after #3. Rd1 - :60, 2:02, 2:52. Rd2 - :50, 1:41, 2:44. Rd3 - :51, 1:49, 2:54. My right ankle is a little fussy, but over all, a good workout.

14. Paleo as pseudo science was recently discussed in a Robb Wolf post called "Barry Sears IS Paleo". It said that there were trainers at a Crossfit cert that told the group that paleo practicioners are pseudo scientists. So either that guy is making a reference to the article sarcastically or repeating what was supposedly taught at a cert. I highly recommend reading the Robb Wolf post about Barry Sears and the 130 comments that followed.

19. Congrats Lisa on the great accomplishment. I'm a newbie to CFE and a relative newbie to CF but I love the CF WODs and the CFE philosophy. Ran a bunch of 50k trail races in order to prepare for my first 50-miler this November and my training's always been old fashioned (long slow distance). So, I'm guardedly optimistic about CFE's training approach - I guess you can say I've been brainwashed by conventional wisdom about distance training. So, this approach (CF + CFE - excessive slow boring mileage) has adequately prepared folks for the 50- and 100-mile races? I've read a couple positive accounts and want to be a believer!

20. Lisa, awesome job on a tough course! On LSD no less. You'll be a monster with CFE.

21. Bernie, there's an article in the CF Journal about Shane, who just completed a 100 miler using CF/CFE exclusively. A lot of people have done it and more are switching over.

22. Shane's report is well worth reading, he did so well training with CF and CFE. I really enjoy my long slow runs - I love a long day out in the woods with my friends and will not give that up. However, I do want to experiment with how CFE can work for me going forward.
Bernie, are you doing the JFK 50?
Comment by Lisa — August 27, 2009 at 3:22am
23. Thanks John and Lisa. I'll be sure to read it! I registered one day after registration opened for JFK and didn't get in. So, I'm thinking about the North Face WI 50-miler. Looks like a good first timer's 50 miler. I've done three days of CFE and I'm all in! Will still do some long runs along the AT on the weekends, but plan to cut down significantly on the mid-week mileage and replace with CF and CFE.

24. Congrats, Lisa - you are an inspiration. Please take the "pseudo-science" conversation elsewhere and respect the space for commenting on a young woman's amazing accomplishment. Salud.
